Tetris Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always an outcry for introducing of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications actually cover numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category that year
  • Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier game development, producing among essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
